Great Gatsby with a Tequila Twist in San Antonio, Texas

When they started dating, Marco told Victoria that his aunt, who works for Pronovias, would design his future wife’s dress. True to his word, Marco and Victoria flew to Mexico once they were engaged, where Marco’s aunt drew up a look that incorporated Victoria’s favorite details. On that same trip, at a tequila distillery, Victoria and Marco were inspired to host an elegant Texas event that would celebrate their Mexican culture, which they pulled off with showstopping florals and mini tequila bottles and lime truffle favors.

Featuring a portrait neckline, Victoria’s beaded ivory gown was made with Chantilly, Venice and Alençon laces. Victoria’s crew wowed in dark green gowns with lace sleeves, with the maid and matron of honor standing out in jeweled belts. Tables, fittingly named after different tequilas, were topped with blue linens and arrangements bursting with red and pink blooms like hydrangeas, carnations and roses. Tequila was also the featured spirit for cocktail hour, popping up in margaritas and a Mexican vanilla mule. After considering more than 50 sketches, Victoria and Marco believe this final flower wall design was one of the “most spectacular” aspects of the night. Marco grew up around his mother’s flower shop, so the couple didn’t hesitate to make a statement with roses, dahlias, peonies and celosia. “I was very involved in the planning—I either selected or approved every flower, linen and vendor,” Marco says. His idea for a towering display of roses, orchids and hydrangeas designated the head table.

In addition to red velvet sheet cakes, two bakers from two different cities created the couple’s luxe vanilla buttercream cake that looked almost too good to eat. A live band and DJ provided five hours of dancing, but the party didn’t stop there. Guests attending the tornaboda, a traditional Mexican after-party, refueled with menudo and pan dulce.
