A Garden Party-Inspired Rooftop Wedding at Potomac View Terrace Overlooking Washington, DC

Asha and Rene celebrated their marriage with a rooftop garden party-inspired reception at Potomac View Terrace in Washington, DC. However, before the city-view event the festivities kicked off with a Sangeet that doubled as a welcome party at Glenview Mansion in Rockville, Maryland inspired by A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare. "Our wedding was a two-day celebration," explains Asha. "Since my husband and I are of two different cultures, he’s Salvadoran and I am Indian, we decided on a two-day fusion event," explains Asha. "Friday was our traditional Indian Sangeet/Mehndi and Saturday we envisioned a fusion of Indian and Salvadoran. When we decided we wanted our big fusion-filled wedding to be in the Washington, DC, area, we knew we had to have it be outdoors and accommodate our huge family. We found the most enchanted old mansion in Rockville, Maryland, to host our Sangeet. This was our dream venue with so many corners that could hold all our ideas and vision."

The Sangeet had an epic bouncy castle decorated with a balloon installation and casual lounge seating for guests to relax or mingle as they saw fit. "We wanted an intimate gathering to welcome all our loved ones out of state," explains Asha. "We wanted some fun cocktails, so we decided on a frose that was served from our pink bars. We had an adult-size bouncy house with pastel balloon arches for our guests to enjoy. We welcomed everyone with some traditional Indian gifts, like clutches, bangles and bhindis. We wanted it to be an Indian welcome party, adorned with flowers and colors. We decided on a floral swing with a 'happily ever after' neon sign as a photo backdrop for guests to have a cute booth to take pics in. We knew we wanted an event that had people floored with all the different levels of attractions."

For the main event, the couple selected Potomac View Terrace to capitalize on its sweeping view of downtown Washington, DC. The reception included vibrant blue-and-white table linens, a canopy of twinkle lights and custom signage to deck of the DJ booth. Needless to say, this rooftop Washington, DC wedding was one for the books. "Flowers were extremely important to us—the goal was to encompass some pastel blues and peaches with a lot of pampas," says Asha.

Looking back, the couple loved all the details of the wedding, but most of all they were simply grateful that the event finally took place. "The most special part of our celebration was finally having a wedding day where we could have fun and dance the night away with our families. For nearly a year or two the rules for hosting events was constantly changing. We were just so happy and floored to be surrounded by love," recalls the couple.
