Funky Retro Wedding in Cincinatti

Chelsea Baker (31 and an event planner) and Dan Rosenthal (32 and a web developer) like to do things a little differently. They jointly planned to get engaged on a trip to New York, chose their renovated industrial venue before it had windows or lights, and asked Dan’s dad to officiate their ceremony. A friend designed their modern invites, while the couple dreamed up a retro-cool wedding vibe with a bold peach, mustard and coral palette. The menu of frozen rosé, tacos and a chili cheese coney bar kept the mood relaxed.
Tables set with light pink plates, gold cutlery, rust-colored napkins and velvet tablecloths set the scene. “I wanted the florals to have a sculptural feel with an interesting palette,” Chelsea says. “By using rows of bud vases as centerpieces, we highlighted the beauty of each individual bloom.” Chelsea’s mom made the couple’s favorite cookies for the sweet spread: smoochies, peanut butter blossoms and chocolate chip.
Chelsea attached pins from her great- grandmother’s wedding dress to her bouquet of roses and anthurium.
A vintage bride and groom topper finished off the classic Milk Bar birthday cake. A graphic mix of roses, strawflowers, lisianthus and cockscomb topped the cocktail tables.
One of Chelsea’s bridesmaids designed all the stationery and signage. “We wanted something bold and fun, but not too childlike,” Chelsea says. Chelsea and Dan sent guests home with sugar cookies decorated to look like their dogs. The newlyweds swayed to “Thank You Too,” by My Morning Jacket. “When I listened to a playlist of our favorite songs, this was the only one that made me cry,” Chelsea says. “That’s how I knew it was the song.”
