A Fashion-Forward Estate Wedding at Waveny House in New Canaan, Connecticut

After looking at venues all over Rhode Island, where her family has a summer home, Lydia and Derrick decided on the gardens at Waveny House. Inspired by the venue’s vintage wallpaper, the couple incorporated birds and feathers throughout their September wedding. Lydia created feather shoe clips and a matching hairpiece, while the hand-painted stationery showed off the theme. Feathers were even included in the guest book table décor. The couple’s menu highlighted their most-loved foods, including shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, lobster rolls and pies from the bride’s favorite farm stand in Rhode Island. At cocktail hour, guests sipped on old-fashioneds and redheaded gardeners—Lydia’s St-Germain and vodka concoction. For the reception, Lydia changed into a lace bodysuit and ostrich feather skirt she handmade .The couple cut into a simple vanilla cake with berry filling and topped with vintage brass pheasants and sprigs of greenery.
