Fashion and Flowers Took Center Stage at this Colorful Celebration in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Jennifer and Megan aren’t the types to color inside the lines. In fact, the more color the better. “We wanted warm, autumnal colors, but without stuffiness,” Jennifer says. “We added funky touches here and there.” Throughout the couple’s wedding day, they weaved fun, playful personalization with serious, thoughtful tradition. During their ceremony, Jennifer and Megan not only jumped the broom to recognize the work that Jennifer says paved the way for the “equality of interracial, queer relationships and the work that remains to be done,” but they also participated in a traditional Celtic handfasting ceremony. “We now have the colorful knot formed by the cords in a shadow box for our home as a lasting symbol of our bond,” Megan says.
Megan, who admits she’s “flower obsessed,” chose leafy vases of roses, amaranthus and coxcomb to top lavender linens. Each “party animal” escort card represented a creature of South Africa, where the pair honeymooned. Jennifer accessorized her purple suit with a floral necklace crafted from the same blooms as the bouquets. “I loved that I had something not as traditionally masculine as a tie, but not as feminine as a bouquet,” she says. Though she couldn’t attend the ceremony, the couple’s rescue pup, Edie, made an appearance in the save-the-dates.
