An Elegant Wedding at a Modern Art Gallery in Lubbock, Texas

As a part-time wedding photographer, Kim had a clear vision of what her and Zane ’s own nuptials would look like. “We booked the 5&J Gallery because it had great lighting and it’s not commonly used for weddings,” she says of outfitting the concrete venue with acrylic accents, black chairs and wood candle holders. “Our personal style is a mix of modern minimalism and simple elegance, so we tried to find playful ways to combine both.” Arrangements of olive, eucalyptus and huckleberry provided a pop of green to tablescapes, and Kim opted for olive branches in her hair rather than a veil.“We had almost a 100 percent RSVP rate,” Kim says of mailing postcards to guests.Kim and Zane exchanged wedding bands designed by the bride’s brother. “He made several of my siblings’ rings, so it was really special to continue that tradition,” Kim says. Zane handcrafted wood benches for guests that were later gifted to friends who assisted with the wedding planning. Instead of fresh petals, flower girls scattered the aisle with gold confetti dots to “make the ceremony feel more like a party,” Kim says. The bride’s favorite coffee shop, Yellow House Coffee, was on hand during cocktail hour to serve espresso and caffeinated drinks to guests in need of a pick-me-up .A close friend of Kim and Zane wrote the bride’s processional song, its lyrics later appearing on the back of the newlyweds’ ghost chairs. “We chose to assign seats during dinner because we wanted our guests to feel seen knowing we had saved a spot specifically for them,” Kim says.
