DIY Blind-Contouring Portrait Escort Cards

In lieu of a traditional seating chart, the couple did something totally unexpected and did blind-contour drawings of all their guests. “Blind contour drawings are an art-school exercise where you draw a portrait of a person from a photo or from life without looking down at the paper as you draw,” Sam says. “It’s a way to get your hand and brain to work together, and you often end up with really fun—and sometimes really bad—drawings.” Each one was framed and placed on a table during cocktail hour, so everyone could find their own portrait and check out everyone else’s. “We also had pads of paper and colored pencils on every table so people could try it out for themselves at dinner,” he says.
