Disco and Carnival Vibes Filled This Vibrant Pink Wedding at 501 Union in Brooklyn, New York

Molly Sprick and Andrew Reid’s story began at George Mason University, where the world of theater brought them together. “Andrew was a playwriting major, and I was close friends with many of the theater students, so our meeting was inevitable,” Molly recalls. Their first encounter happened in the basement of the rehearsal building, introduced by a mutual friend. However, it wasn’t until a year later that their paths truly aligned, leading to the first of many coffee dates.

Fast forward to 2022, Andrew was deep into his graduate school applications and needed professional headshots. He enlisted the help of Molly’s best friend, Megan, who also happened to be a talented photographer. “The plan was to do fake headshots and then casually bring up to Molly that we should do some photos together because Molly cannot resist a photo op,” Andrew explains. But the day didn’t go as smoothly as planned. “In classic fashion, I did not make things easy; I made Andrew run back to the car to get my heels, I would not pick a spot for photos and on top of all that, it was pretty cold outside that day,” she recounts with a laugh. Despite the hurdles, Andrew remained determined. “While we set up for photos and Megan got Molly into position, I got down on one knee and proposed,” Andrew remembers. Though she wasn’t surprised by the proposal, as “in the end, she knew everything and was not surprised at all because nothing gets past her,” it was a moment filled with joy.

Initially, the couple considered a dark-academia, moody-fall vibe for their wedding. They even booked 501 Union in Brooklyn with this aesthetic in mind. However, as their planning progressed, Molly had a change of heart. She texted their planner with a video of a mismatched all-pink wedding party, saying, “I was leaning more neutral and now I’m like.... but I love pink?” This revelation sparked a new direction for their wedding, leading to the creation of the most epic pink disco wedding ever.

The goal was to embrace pink without it feeling childish, opting for a funky, disco carnival vibe that matched Molly and Andrew’s fun-loving energy. The decor featured various shades of blush in the linens and florals to add dimension and texture. The head table was adorned with pink sequin linens, resembling the texture of a disco ball. Olivia Howard’s floral designs, featuring hand-painted accents and glitter, brought the space to life.

Molly and Andrew’s fashion choices were equally as bold and distinctive. Molly chose a gorgeous WONA gown for her ceremony, paired with a striking Madison Chamberlain veil. Andrew wore a modern white suit with sequin accents from ASOS, finished off with pink sparkly loafers. For the reception, Molly wore a custom dress from Rachel Burke, complete with iridescent fringe and hot pink tulle. Andrew opted for a toile suit from ASOS, and both wore matching hot pink sneakers, a hit that even inspired their photographer and planner to get matching pairs!

As guests gathered at 501 Union, they were greeted with an atmosphere charged with the excitement the bride and groom infused into their decor. Prior to walking the aisle, Molly and Andrew held a very special pre-wedding event: a first look with their French bulldog, Chloe, dressed in a tiny bridal dress. Molly’s dad officiated the ceremony, where the couple exchanged heartfelt vows they had written themselves. “Reading our vows in front of all our friends and family and feeling the love in the room from everyone was one of our favorite moments,” the bride says.

The cocktail hour was a continuation of the pink theme. A Filipino food truck honored Andrew’s heritage, while a popcorn and cotton candy station added a carnival-like element. Guests enjoyed pink buckets of popcorn and cotton candy served with champagne. Molly’s signature drink, a sparkly pink margarita with pink edible glitter, was a crowd favorite.

Following the cocktail hour, Molly and Andrew shared their first dance, which led to a unique “dance-off” between their families. Molly, a former competitive dancer, choreographed an epic battle that had everyone cheering. This playful twist on tradition was a highlight of the evening.

Dinner was served outside, where the New York Pizza Truck offered fresh pizza in custom pink pizza boxes featuring Chloe. After dinner, the DJ got the dance floor going again, with guests dancing under the NYC sky and a huge disco ball. For those who didn’t feel like dancing, a skee ball machine provided entertainment and a glitter artist created rave makeup looks for guests.

To close out the night, guests enjoyed Levain Cookies, Molly and Andrew’s favorite dessert, with Chloe’s stamp of approval. An espresso cart with pink coffee cups provided a late-night boost, ensuring the party continued well into the evening. Reflecting on their journey, Molly and Andrew shared advice for other couples planning their big day. “Get a wedding planner. The amount of times that Amy saved our metaphorical lives cannot be overstated,” Molly laughs. “She is an angel and our hero. She made wedding planning as stress-free as it could possibly be, AND she pulled off the wedding of our dreams.”

They also recommended considering a two-part wedding. “Get married and then get married again,” Molly suggests. “Having two weddings allowed us to have an intimate private legal ceremony and then a big wedding party. More opportunities for different outfits and different aesthetics!” Most importantly, they stressed the value of marrying your best friend. “Not a day goes by when we don’t dance, giggle, have deep conversations, share a meal, support each other and talk about how lucky we are for the life we have built together.”
