As they approached a stop sign, Deana, now a 30-year-old communications manager, thought to herself, “If he turns right we are going home…but if he turns left, everything could change.” Michael, now 28 and a co-owner of a bottled water company, turned left and headed for Hyannisport Beach, where he suggested they stop to watch the moon rise over the ocean. Reluctant to get out in the cold, Deana finally agreed. With the moon glowing overhead, Michael told Deana he wanted to give her a birthday present. He handed Deana a small box tied with satin ribbon, got down on one knee, and proposed. “I wasn’t cold anymore!” she remembers.
