Though Courtney and Dave planned their wedding at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club from a distance (they live in Chicago), they did so with lots of help from family. Although they were friends at Indiana University (and often worked together in class), the two never dated in college. All that changed after receiving their first alumni newsletter. “As a publicist, I was easily able to get his email address, and we started corresponding,” says 29-year-old Courtney. She and Dave, a 30-year-old online editor, dated long distance for a few years until he finally moved from south Florida to Chicago to be with her.

The Couple
The interfaith ceremony (Courtney is Catholic, Dave is Jewish) took place outdoors overlooking Rehoboth Bay. “Since it was windy outside, we weren’t able to light the unity candle,” Courtney says. “Instead, we did a sand blending ceremony.” The couple was married under a huppah and ended the ceremony with the traditional Jewish breaking of the glass.
The Reception Decor
The cake was a round, three-tier, pink and white confection that consisted of two delicious flavors: white cake with raspberry filling, and double-chocolate fudge. “We received many compliments on the cake,” Courtney says.
