One Couple's Bright, Whimsical and Modern Wedding at Camp Comfort in Comfort, Texas

Alyssa rarely gets to use her creative side during her day job. So she let it run wild when planning her DIY wedding to Patrick at Camp Comfort. “We went for a bright, whimsical and modern feel,” Alyssa says. The couple designed all of the stationery, made terrarium centerpieces, spray-painted teal table numbers and potted flowering cacti, resulting in a Southwestern extravaganza bursting with color.

Alyssa printed the table assignments on watercolor paper and hung them on a pegboard. “We wanted to give friends and family a little getaway over Memorial Day weekend,” Alyssa says. Camp Comfort, a historic retreat on Cypress Creek, fit the bill, with rooms for guests to stay overnight.

The band kicked things off with a grand march, a lively Hill Country tradition that got everyone promenading, holding hands and circling the newlyweds for their first dance. Mexican falsa blankets ran down the head table, set with gold wire placemats, brass tealights, copper mugs, cacti in terra-cotta pots and colorful agate place cards.  Guests helped themselves to fajitas and later feasted on breakfast tacos. Buttercream-frosted chocolate, lemon and confetti cakes sat on stands belonging to Alyssa’s mom.
