A Colorful and Sustainable DIY New England Wedding at Round the Bend Farm
“Tradition wasn’t very important to us,” Mac says of his wedding to Elizabeth. Case in point: The pair got ready together, walked down the aisle hand-in-hand and served ice cream sandwiches for dessert. The couple also focused on sustainability, working with local vendors to source all of the food from nearby farms, like fried chicken with hot honey, herbed corn and beet sauté.
Elizabeth designed all of the day’s stationery, including drawing flowers and insects for the escort cards, which unfolded into dinner menus. “I loved that my dress was cotton and comfortable and looked like me, but still felt special,” Elizabeth says of her unique flowery gown. For their first dance, the newlyweds took a spin to “Everywhere,” by Fleetwood Mac. Elizabeth and Mac served three wine varietals from Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard, located 15 miles away in Rhode Island. Elizabeth silk-screened drawings of wildflowers and vegetables onto cotton tea towels that doubled as favors. “We wanted to give guests something handmade that they could reuse,” she says. The couple enlisted friends to help them arrange snapdragons, roses, dahlias and feverfew in Mason jars ahead of the wedding.
