Colorful Multicultural Wedding at Darby House in Galloway, Ohio
Hannah Choe (33 and a bone marrow transplant physician) and David Hoelzle (34 and an assistant professor of mechanical engineering) brought a piece of home to their ceremony overlooking Big Darby Creek. “David’s father is a talented woodworker who built much of their family’s home,” Hannah says. “He actually removed the French doors from their living room and designed them to fit into a new frame for our wedding. Afterward, the doors were replaced without a scratch.” Guests popped gold streamers before Hannah and David recessed up the aisle to the tune of “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. Immediately following their vows, guests moved indoors to honor Hannah’s Korean heritage with a traditional pyebaek ceremony. Dressed in hanboks purchased in Korea by the bride’s parents, the couple went through a series of gestures that honored their elders, who then tossed fresh dates at the pair. “Every date that you catch in your hanbok signifies one child you’ll have together,” Hannah says. “Apparently we’ll be having well over 50 children!”
Our favorite #MakeTradition moment: Thousands of origami paper cranes, which symbolize hope and happiness, hung from the Darby House.
