Lindsay and Paurush gave their respective Western and Indian cultures time in the spotlight on their wedding day. “We had two separate ceremonies, which allowed each of us to incorporate our unique traditions,” Lindsay says. “To achieve a cohesive look, we stuck to the same palette and re-used flowers.” In the morning, a lively baraat procession led Paurush (and the couple’s maltipoo) to City Hall, where the pair had a shortened Hindu ceremony, luncheon, Christian vows and reception.

Lindsay played a dhol (traditional Indian drum) as she entered the reception, while Paurush danced alongside her. “Guests said it was a perfect fusion of cultures, with me in a white dress playing an Indian instrument” Lindsay says. For the Hindu ceremony, Lindsay wore an embroidered lehenga and Paurush sported a sherwani. “We didn’t want the bright reds and oranges typical of Indian weddings,” Lindsay says. “We instead decided on a palette of pink, fuchsia, black and gold.”

The couple served an Indian buet of curries and naan, but included a few Italian dishes for spice-averse guests.  The invitation suite, designed in India, encouraged guests to observe both ceremonies, while a black escort card display hung atop a flower print and boxwood wall. A bright mix of hydrangeas, orchids, roses and dahlias marked the couple’s seats. Guests wrote well-wishes on pieces of a large photo, then placed their notes in slots on the board, like a puzzle.
