Colorful Backyard Wedding in Charleston, SC

Ashley Anderson (an account manager) and Chris Sykora (a financial analyst) met in his hometown of Charleston, and not in one of the city’s storied romantic spots, but on the water taxi. Three years later, the pair welcomed loved ones, including their pup, to an intimate backyard ceremony at Chris’s family’s home on Coburg Creek. “Their property captures Charleston’s beauty,” Ashley says. A pair of dolphins witnessed their vows from the water.
Ashley and Chris marked their first look in downtown Charleston, riding to different historic spots in a rickshaw and encountering plenty of Southern hospitality as they explored. “Everyone was congratulating us and snapping photos of us,” Ashley says. “We felt like celebrities.” The newlyweds ate slices of almond amaretto cake topped with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream, delicate pearls, soft-pink sugar flowers and blue buttercream berries for a pop of color.
