Celestial-Themed, Vintage-Filled Wedding at the Barr Mansion in Austin, Texas

When planning their wedding, Madison and Alex aimed for the moon. “I really wanted to get married under a full moon,” Madison says. “That’s how we picked the date. It was a bonus that the rehearsal dinner fell on Friday the 13th.” Black save-the-dates featuring the lunar calendar set the tone for a dark and moody celebration at Barr Mansion, complete with disco balls, skull decorations and a live rendition of the Jurassic Park theme song.
Alex wore a custom look embroidered with a bear, the lunar cycle and the couple’s zodiac signs. Rich floral centerpieces, plus plums, pears and votive candles, decorated tables. Ruby-red roses dotted the chocolate mesquite confection. Since neither Madison nor Alex is a huge fan of cake, they omitted a traditional cutting and had pieces ready to serve as guests entered the ballroom.
Guests dined on maple-glazed chicken thighs, chipotle-roasted sweet potatoes and cheesy winter squash fritters. Many of the herbs and veggies used were grown on-site.  More their speed, the couple served a cheese wheel tower for dessert, which included rounds of blue, tomme and triple cream. The newlyweds danced to “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” by Cannonball Adderley. Their cockapoo, Disco, also joined in.
