A fuchsia and lime green color scheme and a recurring dragonfly motif were the starting point for this summery wedding. The Bride Carrie Edwards, 30, emergency physician The Groom Jason Daffner, 29, CPA and law student The Date July 3 They say the third time is a charm. For Carrie Edwards and Jason Daffner, nothing could be closer to the truth. Carrie and Jason met and became friends while studying (for their undergraduate degrees) at Emory University. A few years later, the two began dating long-distance, with Carrie living in Philadelphia and Jason in Miami. “After our third real date, he decided to pick up and move to Philadelphia,” Carrie says. “We’ve been together ever since!” Nearly two years later, on one particular rainy day, Carrie was supposedly meeting up with a friend in Rittenhouse Square. Her friend never showed, but Jason did (little did she know it was all part of a bigger plan). As Carrie wandered the square in the pouring rain looking for her lunch date, she found Jason standing by their old apartment with their two dogs. Jason proposed “as the wet dogs jumped all over us,” she says. Two years later, they were married at a place dear to Carrie’s heart.

Set up on the grounds between a tent for dancing and the Glen Foerd boathouse, were 16 tables with white tablecloths and fuchsia napkins to add touches of color. Tables were topped with glass vases and silver julep cups filled with summer blooms including verbena and gerbera daisies. After the sun set, strings of lights gave the space a soft, romantic glow.

The Couple
For those with a sweet tooth, dinner was followed by a tasty dessert -- a three-tiered chocolate ganache wedding cake decorated with fresh orchids and strawberries.
The Escort Cards
Her five bridesmaids carried bouquets with bases that resembled birds’ nests with lime green orchids and fuchsia accents.
Though the interior of the nineteenth-century mansion at Glen Foerd is impressive because of the bride’s special relationship with the estate, the couple was able to hold their celebration outside on the grounds. Friends and family gathered along the banks of the Delaware River as the bride and groom stood under a wooden arch Carrie’s father had built, which was decorated with wispy vines, orchids, and colorful gerbera daisies.
“I grew up across the street from Glen Foerd, and spent more of my afternoons running about the grounds than I did in my own house,” Carrie says, and without exaggeration: Her mother has long been involved with the restoration and preservation of the estate. “We truly feel as if the estate is an extension of our home.”
