Candelabras and Roses Filled This Hindu Wedding at The Astorian in Houston, Texas
Rhuju and Vijay both have Indian roots, but their similarities end there. “Our families are from two different parts of India—Gujarat and Telangana—with different languages, food and traditions,” Rhuju says. “We tried our best to make everyone happy.” At their shortened Hindu ceremony, they played a song recorded by Rhuju’s mom, a professional wedding singer, and served an Indian buffet with vegetarian options afterward. Glass candelabras, gold flatware and arrangements of roses, lisianthus, anemones and eucalyptus created an elegant, romantic atmosphere at the reception. Guests helped themselves to Hyderabadi stuffed eggplants, saag paneer, chicken tikka masala and goat curry. The couple cut into a single-tier cake with vanilla buttercream and served cupcakes for dessert. Rhuju and Vijay danced to “Sweetest Thing” by Lauryn Hill.
