A Whimsical Camp Wedding at Sacajawea Day Camp in Farmingdale, New Jersey
Sally and Andrew “DIYed practically everything,” Sally says. “It was important that everything felt like us as much as possible.” The pair threw their wedding at Camp Sacajawea, a Girl Scout camp that Sally attended as a kid near her hometown. Guests received invites that Sally edited herself, using an Etsy digital template. She even designed and watercolored the custom map and made time to create ceramic centerpieces to fill with flowers, which many friends and family took home. After a ceremony in Camp Sacajawea’s outdoor amphitheater surrounded with potted plants, guests headed to a laid-back reception that capped off with a Samoa cake, fitting for a venue that doubles as a Girl Scout camp.
The pair designed a few furniture groupings around the reception, using pieces from Sally’s mom’s house “to create a relaxed environment where guests could feel as though they were at our home,” Sally says. To celebrate the friends who introduced them, Sally and Andrew marked those chairs with calligraphed wood arrows, which Sally’s brother cut and Sally stained. The wedding party carried bouquets with white hydrangeas and dusty miller.
Sally’s mom refinished her own candelabra for the head table, which stood next to décor purchased at auction and rented vintage china.
Guests sampled mini burgers—including some made with beets because Sally and Andrew don’t eat meat—while sipping craft beer from Alementary Brewing Co. Naturally, everyone went home with boxes of the couple’s favorite Girl Scout cookies. Sally’s dad is a retired antique car mechanic, “so incorporating a vintage car into our wedding was extra special,” she says. They rode off on the back of his Porsche, with Andrew’s mom in the front seat and Sally’s dad at the wheel.
