Botanical and Art-Deco Touches Filled This Windy City Wedding at Theater on the Lake in Chicago
A love of family and Chicago’s iconic architecture inspired Jen and Mike wedding. The skyline made a dramatic backdrop for the windy outdoor ceremony at Theater on the Lake, a prairie- style 1920s building, while inside, pops of gold and orange set a modern tone. To honor Mike’s late grandmother, each table number incorporated one of her expressive paintings. Jen wrapped her late grandfather’s watch around her bouquet of roses, ranunculus, anemones, dahlias and greenery.
Geometric gold frames held roses, ranunculus, olive branches and eucalyptus. The couple danced the hora during the reception, a nod to Mike’s Jewish heritage. Instead of a father-daughter dance, Jen hit the floor with her grandmother.
Mini Chicago-style hot dogs, Jen’s favorite, kept the energy up. Jen and Mike served two cakes: dairy-free chocolate and red velvet with chocolate mousse and cream cheese frosting.
