A Multi-Day Celebration Full of Bold, Modern Details in Los Cabos, Mexico
Blind dates seem like a facet of days gone by, so when Samantha Berger and Shane Knowles got the chance to tag along with their friends on a blind double date, they both jumped at the opportunity. Who would have thought it would lead them to their forever partner? When it came time to pop the question, Shane decided on the picturesque backdrop of Lake Louise in Banff, Canada. "He was so nervous he was shaking!" Samatha recalls.
From the very beginning of their engagement, Samantha had a clear vision for their special day. She shares, "I wanted something unique, cool, modern and not overly girly... and nothing boho." To achieve this aesthetic, Samantha and Shane decided to blend the contrasting landscapes of Baja's desert and the lush jungle ambiance of Acre Resort. With this marriage of backdrops in mind, the couple elected to host a multi-day celebration, each showcasing a different area of their destination: Los Cabos, Mexico. "Each of the venues gave us beautiful backdrops to take editorial-style newlyweds photographs," shares the bride.
For decor, Samantha, Shane and their team brought in elements like desert stones and funky melted disco balls, adding a contemporary twist and creating an air of artistic expression. These unique touches were integrated into various aspects of their celebration, including the seating chart tables, ensuring that every detail resonated with their chosen theme.
Their fashion choices were equally thoughtful and complementary. Samantha radiated elegance in an A-line gown by Liancarlo, a creation she purchased from Kinsley James Couture Bridal. Shane looked dashing in a custom tuxedo by Suit Supply, paired with stylish Santoni shoes. Together, they epitomized modern sophistication and grace.
The weekend kicked off with a heartwarming welcome dinner at the Esperanza Resort, with delicious local fare and great conversation. Following the meal, the welcome part jump-started the lively festivities at a nearby beachfront home in the El Dorado community.
As their official wedding day unfolded, guests gathered beneath the bright sun at Chileno Bay Resort, where an architectural wooden structure and organic florals in nude tones framed the beachfront ceremony. The pair implemented a first look to get some privacy before their "I dos." When the time finally arrived, Samantha made her way down the sandy aisle toward the radiant azure sea and her groom, standing underneath the suspended arrangements of neutral blooms. "We all cried a little during the vows," the bride recalls.
The ethereal and romantic atmosphere of the ceremony continued into the reception at Acre Resort, surrounded by palm trees and wild floral arrangements. "After the ceremony, which was modern, minimalist, and architectural, we went to Acre for the wedding reception, which was a celebration in the middle of a jungle oasis," Samantha details. The color palette, predominantly black and white with vibrant floral accents, captured their artistic spirit. Unconventional decor elements, including desert stones on the tables and the mesmerizing melted disco balls, further enhanced the couple's modern design aesthetic. The bride ensured, "I loved the melted disco balls."
Guests were treated to a visual feast, as a combination of glass lamps and handmade white hanging lamps illuminated the dance floor, creating an enchanting ambiance filled with dimension and visual intrigue. The carefully layered and arranged table linens added a dynamic element, infusing movement into the reception space. Each centerpiece featured light-hued blossoms of different sizes and heights, complementing the lighting: hefty and tapered candles.
Samantha's poignant advice echoes for all future brides and grooms: "Stay on the same property as your wedding guests so that you can spend all weekend together and families and friends can get to know each other." She adds: "During the wedding day, step aside and take some moments for just the two of you so you can enjoy everything you have created and see how your loved ones are enjoying your day."
