The wedding planning process for Shannon Pimmel (26, works in marketing) and Ryan Miller (28, a labor organizer) set the tone for what the couple wants their marriage to look like—a partnership that’s “the product of work, trust and respect.” “He’s a big picture person and I spend all of my time in the details, so the balance was perfect,” says Shannon of delegating tasks for their self-planned wedding, which was a colorful, industrial affair. “We really wanted the theme to feel warm, welcoming and vibrant.” Shannon gave her cousin, who did the flowers, full creative control over the blooms. “Basically ‘here’s some colors, do whatever you want,’” were Shannon’s instructions.
