Bold Colors and Epic Fashion Set Apart This Wedding at The Children's Museum of Denver in Colorado
On the twenty-first night of September, Alex Cobell (33 and a Denver city employee) and True Apodaca (37 and a lobbyist) hosted a celebration totally worthy of the Earth, Wind & Fire disco-pop anthem—it even had icon-named tables. Inspired by Game of Thrones, a “Queenz Guard” escorted Alex (in a “metallic suit that would make Elton John jealous”) and True (in an ensemble whose “pièce de résistance was a 15-foot cape embellished with gold beading”) to their ceremony, officiated by a drag queen. When it came to fashion, Alex and True’s DIY wedding day attire was the epitome of eye-catching—together, they crafted six unique looks.
“Our theme was ‘things that spark joy.’ We love to travel to Mexico and were inspired by the colorful city of Guanajuato,” the couple says of their rainbow-centric décor. To commemorate the roles their wedding party played in the day, each attendee was given an official title ranging from Lady Yesenia of House Mora Plata, Mistress of Metals (the ring bearer) to Grand Duke Rico of House Sandoval, Master of Coin (True’s best man). In addition to the special monikers given to each member of the wedding party, the couple’s drag queen officiant was dubbed Lady Irish of House Augustine.
