A Bold and Eclectic Wedding at The Space HTX in Houston, Texas

Megan and Manny's main priority with their wedding was to "make it feel uniquely and truly us," Megan says. "I'm an interior designer, so naturally I had a million ideas at the beginning, but throughout the process, I kept reminding myself of the big picture and making sure everything we chose was intentional and true to us. We took inspiration from our local roots here in Houston. We both love being in a large urban city, but also have roots and a love for the vast Texas landscapes. That really started to shape the design and color palette of the day."

"Our ceremony location was so incredible and it will be a landmark that we will continue to visit throughout the years to remember our special day—it was an art installation by James Turrell who is one of my all-time favorite artists. It captured my passion for art and architecture, and the ethereal vibe of the space during the ceremony was seriously like nothing else I've ever experienced. It was magic—that's the only way to describe it," says Megan of the ceremony at Live Oak Friends Meeting House in Houston, Texas. "James Turrell creates visual illusions with light and space, and it is truly dream-like. The specific skyspace we chose was inside of a local Quaker meeting house in the Heights, Houston—called Live Oak Friends Meeting House. It's a large property, with a meticulous yet simple worship space situated on it. inside the worship space is a 12' x 12' square opening in the roof which you can see the evening sky through. We were married directly underneath it - in the center of the room, pews filled with our loved ones surrounding us on all four sides. Our number one priority of the ceremony was for it to be very personal and intimate, which is why we kept our guest count to 100. We wanted our closest friends and family to share our most special moment with us—and oh how it was. I still get teary thinking of how magic it was. Our décor was extremely simple for this space because we were married inside of an actual art installation, it didn't feel appropriate to decorate - we had a beautiful floral arrangement outside, and we kept the interior completely free of decoration, other than one vintage rug we stood on as our altar."

Following their vow exchange at Live Oak Friends Meeting House, the couple and their guests moved to The Space HTX to celebrate the reception. "We chose a very industrial reception venue that was completely whitewashed—aesthetically it turned out really cool with the color palette and floral design we chose, really setting a neutral backdrop to the design much like an art gallery would. The florals were the show stopper as far as decor in the reception—we got so lucky with our floral designer, he was a true artist. I wanted to florals to feel a bit vintage, romantic, and also somehow tie into our Texas heritage and love for Texas landscapes. What we ended up with BLEW ME AWAY. All of the florals fit within a palette of warm tones - dusty blush, terracotta, deep plum, and with accents of dried stems that really brought home that Texas touch. The florals on the table were set in and surrounded by vintage amber glassware and included unique blooms in different sized/shaped arrangements. it felt eclectic, vintage, and Texan. And it was perfect," recalls Megan of the Houston reception's floral décor.

Some of the smallest details of the wedding day are the ones Megan notes as her favorite. "One of my favorite touches was my bridal party gift... I collected vintage handkerchiefs over the year we were engaged and then learned how to hand-embroider so that I could hand-stitch each person's name on their handkerchief. It was just a really special personal touch... I also created small round thank you cards at each person's seat at the reception, just thanking them for being there for us. With it, we gave everyone a gold horseshoe for good luck and a small crystal for good energy."
