This Boho Wedding at Envue in Weehawken, New Jersey, Was Inspired by Tulum, Mexico

Indhira and Pedro love to travel together and one of their favorite places to visit is Tulum, Mexico. So much so that Pedro even proposed to Indhira at the airport just before they boarded a flight to Tulum. As such, using Tulum, and especially the Gitano restaurant in the region, as inspiration for their wedding design was a simple choice. New York City also holds a special place in the couple's hearts, so when it came time to select a venue, they settled on Envue, an Autograph Collection hotel, specifically because of the skyline views it afforded them. With the Weehawken, New Jersey, venue set, the couple got to work planning a boho Tulum-inspired wedding filled with disco balls, neon signs and dried palm fronds galore. 


"The inspiration behind our big day was Tulum with a touch of Miami glam with a pop of color," notes Indhira. "The color palette was a mix of hues, it was a transition from summer to fall. As frequent Tulum visitors, we wanted to bring a boho-chic romantic feel to our wedding. We had lots of candles, 10- to 12-foot plants, lots of pampas and an amazing checkered black and white dance floor to transport our guests to what felt like a destination wedding. We had large disco balls displayed around the space and reflective chandeliers to add to the glam. I like to say that it looked like a more glamorous version of the party scene in The Mask where Jim Carey dances with Cameron Diaz. But at this party, we request everyone to wear black. Everyone looked so elegant the wedding could be mistaken for the Grammy awards!" Indhira goes on to note that "the flowers were stunning and the colors were so bold. We wanted to reflect the change in season from spring to fall. We had orange, pink, white, then it went into red, latte, and dark purple."

Indihra notes that "the most anticipated moment of our wedding was our guests' entrance to our reception hall. They were in complete shock since we went in a completely different direction than the usual traditional wedding. They were all teleported to a different country when they opened the door. Even our wedding party was in shock since the details of the decorations were kept private throughout the planning stages."

Meanwhile, looking back on the wedding day, Indhira shares that her best advice for couples currently in the midst of wedding planning is to "enjoy as many massages and spa days as possible while planning, you're going to need it. This is your last test as a couple before you say 'I do' and you will be tested. You have to have an open mind and be as present as possible during the planning. Choose all of your details wisely and ask as many questions as possible to your vendors and venue. You want to create the most special moment in your life and in order to do so, you have to be as involved as possible."
