Gabriela Um (24) and David Um (24) started dating their junior year of high school and went to college together at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). For their seven-year anniversary, David surprised Gabriela with a trip to Ojai, California. To make the trip even more special, David proposed during their trip while watching the sunset. The couple had their wedding at Cicada restaurant located in Downtown Los Angeles, where they both went to school and made many everlasting memories. Aiming for a classic and elegant look, Gabriela and David stuck with a black, gold, silver and white palette that created the formal celebration they had envisioned. The restaurant was known for it’s spectacular cuisine and was proved true with a dinner menu complete with a ravioli dish, a beet and goat cheese salad and a choice of filet mignon, wild mushrooms wrapped in filo or stuffed chicken for the main course. Aside from the excellent food, Gabriela and Um incorporated their Korean and El Salvadoran cultural backgrounds into the wedding day to reflect them perfectly as a couple on their wedding day.

Kim held a bridal bouquet with a mix of blue and purple hydrangeas, tied together with a white wrap and purple ribbon by Petals a Flower Studio.
“Kim spent a weekend wedding dress shopping with her sister and one other bridesmaid in Sacramento with her mom,” says Xan. “She originally wanted a tea length gown but found them hard to find at the time. She just kept coming back to the dress she eventually got and fell in love with it.”
"Our flower girl was wearing a homemade tutu and a rainbow unicorn horn she found that morning in the photo booth props and carried a bubble gun,” says Kim.

"We got married at the Fort Mason Event Center,” says Kim. “We knew we wanted to get married in San Francisco because it is where we met and our lives are together.”
At the ceremony, purple and blue flags were created for guests to wave during the recessional. Also, the wedding was social media friendly and asked guests to use a hashtag throughout the day.
The couple created a wall of purple and blue paper accordion pinwheels that served as the backdrop for the wedding ceremony.
"It was important for us to have our loved ones involved in the day as much as possible, so Xan's sister was our officiant and both of our mothers read during the ceremony,” says Kim.

“Our dinner choices came from food trucks,” says Kim. “This was a really easy way to provide a variety of choices for our guests without having to do any tracking of who wanted what.”

Xan's grandfather used to make candles for many family occasions, so Xan's sister made jarred candles for wedding favors at the wedding.
"The cake toppers were corks from champagne bottles we had popped when originally celebrating our engagement with Xan's family that our friend hand painted for us," says Kim. Above the corks was wire spelling out "We Do".
