A Rustic, DIY, Earth-Conscious Wedding at the Dream Catcher Retreat Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico

When Naiya (25 and a pre-natal and child-care educator) first moved to Santa Fe, she auditioned for a production of the Vagina Monologues that Camille (28 and an art therapist/counselor and vision quest guide) was producing. They had their first date, watching the sunrise over the desert, just a few days after that first meeting. Eight months later, Naiya came home from a stressful day of work to a candle-lit bath, where she soaked and talked about her day with Camille, who suddenly realized that this was the moment she knew she would marry Naiya. Right then and there, Camille proposed--and jumped right in the tub! Naiya, however, was concerned that she might not want to be married after all, so when Camille's ring needed resizing, she took the time to sort through her feelings. Sh ultimately overcame her fears and doubts, and on their first anniversary, Naiya took Camille on a walk with the dog where, beneath another sunrise, Naiya gave her own proposal with Camille's newly resized ring. When planning the wedding, they knew they wanted to get married under a full moon (as both the night they met and the night they were engaged fell under one) and decided on Friday the 13th, as both Friday and the number 13 are said to signify femininity, fertility, marriage, and love. They held a relaxing, spiritual ceremony at the Dream Catcher Retreat Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they celebrated through the gentle desert rain.
