Beautiful Beach Wedding at Private Estate in Rhode Island

Heather Wakeman (28 and a global education director) and Jordan Brown (31 and an educational travel consultant) met in Saint Martin while working for a student travel program. “We developed a strong relationship with undeniable chemistry while doing what we both love: traveling, sailing and spending time in the Caribbean,” Heather says. When it came to their wedding four years later, they brought that same tropical vibe to Heather’s family home in Weekapaug, Rhode Island. Watercolor invitations set the scene for the tented affair, which featured lots of palm leaves and plenty of rum punches.
A hanging display of monstera leaves, palms, proteas, anthurium and orchids marked the head table, while rattan lanterns hung overhead.  Heather’s cousin drove the newlyweds to the reception in her grandfather’s 1915 Model T. Personalized luggage tags pinned to a wood board directed guests to their seats and doubled as favors. “It was special because we both work in travel and met abroad,” Heather says.

eather and Jordan served a chocolate and champagne cake with raspberry filling, plus Caribbean rum cake and Plantains Foster. Roses, ranunculus, orchids, anthurium and tropical foliage topped tables. “We wanted to put the island in Rhode Island,” Heather says. Tropical house music, passed jerk chicken pâté canapés on driftwood trays, rattan chargers and a coral, green and white palette did the trick.
