Bauhaus Brewery Wedding with Yellow Design
The movie "Up" and a love of craft beer inspired the wedding of Sammi Wreschner (26 and a software developer) and Erik Burgess (29 and an IT project manager). The couple, who had their first date at a brewery, filled Bauhaus Brew Labs with balloons, served house-made beers and hired a food truck for their casual, whimsical celebration. They also honored Sammi's late dad at the bar, setting out photos and a beer he would have liked. A sign encouraged guests to cheers with him.
Sammi's mom crocheted the yellow lace flowers on her bespoke gown. Erik snapped on blue suspenders with yellow polka dots. Guests brought flowers to hand Sammi as she was escorted down the aisle by her brother. "It was a meaningful way to build my bouquet," she says.
"We tried to make the signage scream 'us,' so instead of the generic seating chart we went with 'Sit Your Ass Down Here'," Erik says.. The couple named tables after favorite TV shows and movies. Sammi inherited her favorite color, yellow, from her dad, so a sunny palette was a must. "My only concern was that with solid blue and yellow, it would look like a Michigan football party," Erik says. Dusty blue and brown kept decor in safe territory.
Growlers held sunflowers, baby's breath, and Italian ruscus.
Sammi wore her dad's wedding ring on the strap of one of her shoes. "I wanted to feel like he was helping to walk me down the aisle," she says. During cocktail hour, Erik sat in with the New Orleans-style jazz band to play a few tunes on the drums. "I was a bit rusty, but music is a huge part of my life, so it was a fun way to surprise guests," Erik says. A jumbo doughnut cake drizzled with yellow frosting was the start of the dessert spread.
