An Iconic and Rare Wedding at Yankee Stadium Inspired by The Couple’s Love for NYC

For Kate, who describes herself as “as Long Island as it gets,” planning a one-of-a-kind wedding day was about finding a central location for their families, iconic architecture and her husband-to-be Andrew’s love of the Yankees. “It was either Yankee Stadium or bust,” she says. “We didn’t look at any other venues.” The two first met at a Montauk Sharehouse, which quickly dwindled down during Covid to her, Andrew and another couple (who would also, serendipitously, eventually get engaged and then married). It was after one visit in early 2021 to Florida with their friends that Andrew’s work moved him just ten blocks away from Kate, and they soon started dating. Just two years later, during Mardi Gras, he utilized Kate’s love for architecture to propose in the Sunken Lounge in the historic TWA Hotel.

With most of her family in Long Island and Andrew’s family scattered around New Jersey and Connecticut, Yankee Stadium made perfect sense for their needs. The couple planned on incorporating many nods to their favorite baseball team throughout the day, giving it the perfect mix of an elevated event with the vibes of a game day. “Instead of having a guest book, we had a custom Yankee jersey with Gleason and number 24 on the back for guests to sign. Andrew also named each table in the reception after a different Yankee – tailored to each group who sat at that table for a nice personal touch,” the bride adds.

The couple also brought touches of NYC to their day, with Kate finding a lace, fitted Vera Wang gown from a bridal shop in Manhasset and Andrew donning a classic black tux with a white dinner jacket swap for the reception from Alan David Customs. While getting ready, the bride even wore a blue Yankees jacket and took some photos of her accessories on the vintage Yankee radio, tying it all back into the venue. To match the baby’s breath floral arch overlooking the baseball field, Kate’s bridal bouquet had all-white blooms and a touch of greenery. On working with the on-site vendors, she says, “The stadium team made sure that it was a classy, exquisite experience while incorporating baseball and the Yankees in a very tasteful way.”

Leading up to the ceremony, Kate and her wedding party spent time in the luxury suites looking out at the field, which served as bridal suites for the day. She and her groom-to-be also spent some time wandering the stadium beforehand, basking in the unique experience of no crowds or lines. “We had our first look on the field and that was totally epic! We took our first look photos behind home plate, and took photos in the dugout and all around the stadium,” Kate mentions.

To really immerse their loved ones in the atmosphere, guests received a digital ticket (like they would at a real game) with the couple’s wedding logo to scan at the gate for entry. Hawkers came around to serve popcorn and Cracker Jacks, classic baseball snacks, before the ceremony began. Their friends and family could even see themselves on the big screen for a rare opportunity. “[We] also had them submit pictures of themselves at Yankee Stadium or any stadium they loved. It added an intimate touch to a very large space,” says the bride.

And would it really be a day out at the game without hot dogs? The reception included a menu of stadium favorites, from soft pretzels to “lots and lots of hot dogs,” as Kate puts it. The Events staff at Yankee Stadium also surprised the newlyweds by displaying the 2009 World Series trophy in the reception room, making it the perfect photo spot. Only one thing would’ve made the day better, according to the bride: “We only wish that the Yankees took home another World Series trophy in 2024.” And as another acknowledgement to her Long Island roots, Kate adds it wouldn’t have been complete without the man from her hometown himself, “Our final song of the night was ‘Piano Man’ by Billy Joel, and everyone came to the dance floor and sang at the top of their lungs in a circle to close out a magical night.”

One aspect that made their day as magical and unforgettable as it was? Hiring a day-of coordinator, something the couple says they were initially on the fence about, but now feel was an invaluable asset to leading up to the wedding day and throughout the Yankee Stadium soiree. “As with any wedding, things came up last minute and had to be dealt with, and he took care of all of it while we could focus on each other and our special day,” they note, something every couple should rely on to make their day as stress-free and memorable as possible.
