Austin City Limits Music Festival Inspired This Wedding at Waller Creek Boathouse in Texas
For their colorful wedding at Waller Creek Boathouse in Austin, Texas, Nina and Graham took inspiration from the iconic Austin City Limits Music Festival. In particular, they looked to the ACL's colorful flags to inform the stylistic direction of the waterfront wedding they celebrated. The colorful day put Austin on display, front and center, which is fitting given the couple's love for the city. Additionally, to honor Nina's Mexican heritage they also wove Mexican details, like a mariachi band, into the event to further fill the nuptials with meaning and personalization.
"Austin music festivals informed the theme of our wedding day. My husband and I are both Austin natives who love our music fests, especially ACL and SXSW," says Nina. "I was inspired by the ACL rainbow flags, hence the bright color palette. I really wanted to support and pay tribute to our hometown, so all the vendors were Austin-owned and operated. And to keep it extra weird, we left our wedding in a caravan of pedicabs donned with a neon 'just married' sign!" Nina goes on to share that "as far as the decor, anything colorful and funky was game. From the disco balls and bohemian rugs to the rainbows streamers hanging from the ceiling—nothing monotone or mute for this wedding! Even though our wedding was in the fall, I encouraged guests to wear bright, festive colors."
"One of my favorite floral arrangements was the arch of rainbow tropical botanicals at the altar," recalls Nina. "I did my Emergency Medicine residency training in Miami, which has a beautiful tropical flora, and since there will always be a part of my heart that belongs to Miami, I had to represent. The same went for my bouquet; lots of tropicals, orchids, and rainbow pom-poms and ribbons."
"Of course, if we are throwing a music fest-themed wedding, we had to have our own custom wristbands," notes Nina. "They were a fun party favor and were your ticket into the private afterparty at my husband and my favorite dive bar, Dirty Bills. We also had an all-female mariachi group that played at cocktail hour; mariachis are a tradition in Mexican culture, especially at weddings, and being of Mexican heritage, this was very special for me and my family. The amazing band also learned to play one of our absolute favorite songs that we closed out the reception to: 'Dancing On My Own,' by Robyn. It was epic! We spent many nights dancing in our living room singing this song together, it was amazing to share that passion and energy with our guests, who equally love the song!"
