Artsy DIY Northern Michigan Wedding
Organic elegance was the focus of Sabrina Wheeler (26 and an art teacher and photographer) and Grant Langdon’s (30 and a student affairs professional and photographer) alfresco affair, which incorporated quirky nods to the couple’s favorite things—including terrariums and Star Wars–inspired stationery.
“We found every way to make our day unique to us,” Sabrina says. The bride wore a custom peach gown for her walk down the aisle, which was lined with dried rose petals collected from bouquets Grant had given her in the past.
Accompanied by their wedding party, Sabrina and Grant hiked to the top of a hill overlooking Lake Superior for a stunning photo-op.
To signify their new titles as “Mr.” and “Mrs.,” Sabrina and Grant painted a canvas together in a unity ceremony while friends sang “I Love You Too Much” nearby. Afterward, the newlyweds danced up the aisle to Boston’s “More Than a Feeling” while high-fiving guests. “It was the best 20 minutes of our lives,” Sabrina says.
“I probably spent way too much time on every little artistic detail, but I enjoyed the challenge,” Sabrina says of creating their stationery by hand.
“We were very conscious about limiting trash throughout the day,” Sabrina says of filling their fete with recycled glassware and preserved eucalyptus branches. The eco-aware pair further reduced wedding waste by serving food on compostable plates before sending guests home with leftover fare.
