Love didn't strike right away, but soon the number of commuters dwindled down to just the two of them. It gave us plenty of bonding time, says Annie. On a group venture to the movies, everyone else bowed out, leaving Annie and Calvin to their own devices. They spent the evening talking over ice cream at Ben & Jerry's, and love bloomed. Fast-forward 10 months later. While in her Virginia hometown at a friend's wedding, Annie got a phone call from her parents: Calvin was at their restaurant. I was wondering why he was in town, but I didn't think much of it, she says. That evening she picked him up and headed for her parents' house. Calvin had planned on setting the scene with a trail of candles leading up the driveway, but they'd barely reached the living room and greeted Annie's grandmother before -- ring burning a hole in his pocket --he dropped to one knee and proposed.
