Anemones Inspired This Industrial-Meets-Art-Deco Wedding at Red Space Events in Cleveland, Ohio
Lucas (Luke) Franz and Logan Fahey planned a springtime wedding featuring a beautiful fusion of classic and modern elements. As their wedding planner, Nora Culley Tuck, shares, “The words they used in our initial design meeting were ‘Art Deco’ and ‘industrial.’” The wedding highlighted a sleek, black-and-white color palette with subtle emerald green and gold hints. Says Nora, “Mixing the traditional elements like our mirror seating chart with the contemporary moments like the anemone floral runners gave an elevated feeling to the raw space we were in.” The gentlemen mailed deep-toned invitation suites to their nearest and dearest to invite them to their spring wedding—each displaying intricate designs that echoed the style of the 1920s.
The grooms both wanted custom suits to wear on their wedding day that they could also wear for future events. Nora says, “We went with classic black suits, modern white shirts and specialty handcrafted bowties and boutonnieres.” The lovebirds coordinated with one another and designed exquisite outfits that wowed their friends and family.
The couple utilized gorgeous blossoms to accentuate their color scheme. Anemones were the main inspiration for the floral design. Nora reveals, “With our black-and-white theme, they were an obvious choice! To balance these impactful blooms, we incorporated foliage throughout the design, which helped soften the industrial elements in the space and add to the lushness.”
Two of the couple’s closest friends officiated their heartfelt ceremony, which made for a series of sweet stories about their lives together and before they met. Since the same space was used for both the ceremony and reception, we had to transition the decor creatively throughout the evening. Nora explains, “We featured a hanging shelf, adorned with foliage and candles, above a lush floral ground arbor with black and white flowers for the ceremony. We then repurposed the floral installations throughout the reception and placed a bar under the hanging installation.”
The reception space featured black linens, lush floral table runners and some tables with tall foliage centerpieces and some with low-and-romantic candlelight. Sleek, white chairs offset the deep tones of the linens, and delicate string lights were suspended overhead, adding to the soft lighting scheme. Art Deco-inspired stationery adorned the tables. Nora also shares, “The dance floor featured a checkered pattern, and we added marquee lights to several areas throughout the room for a fun and campy twist!” The couple asked their close family and friends to wear bright colors so that they could snap a rainbow photo with them on the dance floor.
Their planner continues, “Their first dance was to the acoustic version of ‘Simply the Best,’ as their favorite TV show is 'Schitt’s Creek' (they even dressed as David and Patrick, a couple on the show, for Halloween). Following their first dance as a married couple, the newlyweds elected to do another special performance. “They wanted to honor their mothers with a combined mother/son dance. Halfway through, they switched partners to show how they are now one family.”
The new Mr. and Mr. incorporated various personal touches into their wedding day. Nora notes, “We had custom Champagne bottles at every table to act as table numbers and a collective guest book so our grooms could open a bottle each year on the corresponding anniversary.” The couple also incorporated desserts from Logan’s bakery, displayed on a vintage buffet table.
Overall, Nora advises couples planning their wedding to stay true to their personal style and preferences. “Don’t overthink it! Dig into who you are as a couple and the style of wedding that you imagine and stick with it! They trusted their vendor partners fully and let everybody showcase their best work for them.”
