An Urban Wedding at the King Plow Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia

For Cleveland Clinic resident physicians, Lauren Buehler (30) and Erica Umpierrez (29), the city of Atlanta served as inspiration when it came to wedding design. The city skyline graced their buttercream cake and invites, and the menu had intentional local flair. “We went with a gourmet take on old-fashioned Southern cuisine,” Lauren says of their fried chicken, braised short ribs, and mac and cheese spread. The Emory grads threw in some surprises too, like a late-night flaming doughnut bar, DJ-spun Latin music (a nod to Erica’s Ecuadorian roots) and a Converse Chuck Taylor appearance (by Erica, who changed into sneakers for the reception). The pair even gave some traditions the night off—they opted not to have a wedding party or a first dance, swapped signature drinks for IPAs and rode off in an UberBLACK. Über-cool.
