An Urban Bohemian Wedding at Grand Circus Park in Detroit, Michigan

Detroit-based couple Sara Lennox (26 and a nursing student) and Eric Tuomey (28 and a real estate analyst) met in high school and quickly became friends before pursuing something more serious. "We lived together while attending Wayne State University and broke up for a few years before finally getting back together and getting engaged," Sara explains. Prior to deciding any details surrounding their urban, bohemian wedding, the couple immediately decided on their dream ceremony space -- the Grand Circus Park in downtown Detroit. "Choosing the location was easy," the bride says. "Eric loves the Detroit Tigers, so we are able to take photos at Comerica Park and celebrate at Angelina's -- a restaurant across the street. Ultimately, we wanted to celebrate the city and make all of the old folks uncomfortable by coming downtown and having their first wedding in Detroit." Forging a traditional color palette, the bride relied on recycled paper products and local flowers for a DIY look that was colorful and chic. "Angelina's brick walls include a few splashes of burnt orange, so I borrowed some color inspiration from the restaurant for our orange flowers," she explains. "It resulted in an urban, yet very natural look." After tying the knot in a traditional Jewish ceremony in the park (under a DIY chuppah crafted by the bride's dad!), the newlyweds and their guests participated in a New Orleans-style Second Line complete with a local marching band. "Eric's parents love New Orleans, so we hired a band from Detroit to march us through our recessional all the way to our reception venue," Sara says. "It was the perfect day."
