A Transit-Inspired Wedding at Liberty Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts

Megan Murphy (37 and an executive assistant) and Patrick Hayes (32 and a networks engineer) knew they wanted something unique for their wedding, but nothing could have prepared their guests for the surprise location of their ceremony. Instead of including the location in their invitations, Megan and Pat gave their guests the GPS coordinates for Boston's Alewife Station. At the subway stop, their friends escorted the guests onto a train car. Only moments before boarding, Megan told her father that he would be escorting her down a subway aisle for the ceremony. Megan and Pat were married somewhere between Harvard Square Station and Central Station. Afterward, the newlyweds and their guests celebrated at Liberty Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. The transit-inspired details were perfectly captured by Jill Markley Studios. The seating chart was designed to look like the subway map for the red line, and tables were named after different stops. Signs pointing out the guest book and the photo booth had the MBTA character Charlie on them. Centerpieces at the reception were simple, with stacks of hardcover books topped with bouquets of paper flowers made from the pages of Megan's favorite book, "Pride and Prejudice." "Our wedding could have gone horribly wrong," Megan says. "We could have missed the train, we could have been kicked off, and we could have lost the rings on a moving train. But we surrounded ourselves with people who love us, so they couldn't help but love the crazy day we'd planned."
