Carrie and Jared both went to the University of Pennsylvania but didn’t meet until after-through mutual friends while living in New York City. Jared invited Carrie to a comedy show, and after asking around to see who else Jared had invited, she realized he had asked her on a date. Despite Jared’s car getting towed during dinner, they had a great time. The Bride Carrie Zaslow, 29, a doctor The Groom Jared Simon, 29, a brand manager The Date May 24 After four and a half years of dating, Carrie, who by then was in medical school in Philadelphia, received in invitation to dinner in New York City from a “secret admirer.” She hopped a train to meet Jared and the two headed to their favorite restaurant, then to the spot where they had ended their first date. (Carrie knew what was up before he even proposed.) They spent the next year and a half planning a wedding in California.

Like the bouquets, the centerpieces were made up of locally grown ranunculus, peonies, English roses, and hydrangea.
The ceremony took place beneath a big sycamore tree, and Carrie’s dad cut the bamboo for the couple’s huppah right from their backyard. Adding another personal touch, the poles were draped with Carrie’s grandmother’s tablecloth.
The couple wanted their wedding to be as environmentally friendly as possible, so they worked with their florist to get locally grown peonies, ranunculus, and English roses for Carrie’s bouquet.
In keeping with their eco-friendly theme, Carrie and Jared gave out wildflower paper that would grow when guests planted it. They attached the paper to cardstock with their names and wedding date.
For the cake topper, Carrie made bride and groom birds out of fabric. Carrie and Jared only managed to sneak one bite of the cake at the wedding, so their baker made them another, smaller replica a few days later.
The couple worked lots of color into the wedding party outfits: Groomsmen wore matching green ties (and socks) with navy blue suits, Jared stood out in an orange tie and gray suit, and the girls’ bright-blue dresses paired nicely with their pink and orange bouquets.
