An Outdoor Evening Wedding at the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa in Honolulu, Hawaii

Briana Kiyonaga (22, student) met Daniel King (25, artist) through a mutual friend when she was just sixteen years old. After their initial meeting, the two continued chatting, and eventually learned that they lived just a few doors down from one another. The neighbors started dating, and continued their romance through Briana’s high school graduation and into her time as an undergrad at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the same school Daniel graduated from with a Fine Arts degree. Six years after their first initial meeting on the beach, Daniel popped the question to an unsuspecting Briana. “I knew we were getting close to the point of proposal, so I started to think he would ask during one of our travels,” says Briana. “Instead, he surprised me by asking at one of our favorite beaches, not far from where we first met.” Over the course of their 6-month engagement, Briana and Daniel planned a nature-inspired outdoor wedding. Both the ceremony and reception took place at the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, in Honolulu, Hawaii. On January 7, 2015 at 5:30pm, as the sun was setting, Briana and Daniel said ‘I do’ on the Diamond Lawn surrounded by 80 of their closest friends and family members. A mocktail hour immediately followed the nuptials, where guests enjoyed the Moana’s speciality fruit punch. The neutral-palette reception also took place outside, where guests enjoyed a vegetarian-friendly dinner. “We had Edison lights strung across the entire venue, which made it look like we added stars to the sky,” says Briana.
