Mike Barroga (31 and a writer) says Jen Martin (28 and a wine specialist) was the first girl he spoke to after he moved to Los Angeles. On his first day in the city, while hunting for apartments, Mike stopped by the local Borders Books where Jen worked. Mike said from then, he knew it was fate. He started working at the Borders less than a month later. "After a lengthy friendship it was clear to both of us that we were inseparable," says Jen. On a vacation cruise to Cozumel, Mike pitched an idea to Jen while they were taking a casual stroll on the ship's deck. Jen was used to listening to Mike pitch story ideas for his writing, so she wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary when he said, "So this guy and girl are off on a cruise, and the guy gives her this..." Jen says she burst into hysterical giggles, which Mike took for a yes. The couple decided to have their wedding in Maryland, where Mike grew up. They chose the Historic Kent Manor Inn in Stevensville, Maryland because the venue was all-inclusive and because of its "old world aura," as Jen puts it. The wedding theme was "Old Hollywood" garden party because Mike and Jen wanted to bring as much of California to Maryland as possible. The color scheme was light and airy with hues of peach and seashell pink. Jen and Mike had their bridesmaids and groomsmen wear converse shoes, which were a fun touch to their otherwise formal outfits. The stunning centerpieces, created by Doepkens Floral Design, were made out of wine crates and had an array of hydrangeas, roses and hyacinths. The couple served a signature pineapple "Old Hollywood Mojito" cocktail and a lemon wedding cake with raspberry curd filling and buttercream frosting. The wedding captured all the glamor of Old Hollywood while incorporating fun, quirky details.
