An Industrial, Purple Wedding at High Line Car House in Columbus, Ohio
With a romantic yet rustic design in mind, Tennessee-based couple Katie James (29 and an affiliate broker) and Jeremy Branan (32 and a military officer) outfitted the historic High Line Car House with velvet linens, gilded flatware and watercolor paper goods. “I wanted a design that spoke to both of our personal styles,” Katie says. “Thankfully, Jeremy’s tastes and mine are very similar, so the details came easy for us.” The couple—who first met as undergraduates at Ohio State University—exchanged vows amid a cluster of astilbe and stock that appeared to bloom directly from the existing wood floor. Before the ceremony, Katie pinned her grandmother’s wedding ring to the underside of her gown as her “something borrowed.” After a cocktail hour that called for bacon-garnished old-fashioneds, partygoers indulged in late-night “hot chicken” sliders that brought a sense of Tennessee flair. Gold chargers and crystal goblets topped dining tables, where arrangements of dahlias and hypericum berries were displayed in concrete vessels. The cake's hand-painted fondant mirrored the design of the watercolor stationery. Because Katie’s parents’ 37th anniversary fell just two days after her own wedding, ceremony programs included a sentimental nod to the bride’s mother and terminally ill father. “We surprised them with an anniversary dance to 'The Way You Look Tonight,'” knowing it was probably going to be their last one together,” Katie says. “My father recently passed away, but I loved being able to celebrate my parents and their union on our special day.”
