An Industrial Butterfly-Themed Wedding at Strongwater Restaurant in Columbus, Ohio
Anna Opitz (28 and an assistant account executive) and Brian Bjelovuk (30 and an industrial designer) used whimsical monarch butterfly details and nods to Anna’s Mexican heritage to pull off an ultra-personal, urban wedding. “Mexico is very important to me because my father spent most of his life there,” Anna says. “Brian and I always love visiting, so the country was a natural place to look for inspiration.” The couple brought the outdoors in for their DIY nuptials with the help of miniature potted plants and hundreds of handcrafted butterflies. Anna and her bridesmaids coordinated in floral hair combs purchased during a trip to Mexico’s San Miguel de Allende. Strawberry margaritas were a hit menu item among guests, who were also treated to cake from New York City’s famed Momofuku Milk Bar in flavors that ranged from chocolate malt and apple pie to a sweet dulce de leche. During the ceremony, Anna and Brian stood before a five-foot-tall ceremony backdrop that depicted an image of an Aztec galactic butterfly. The insect made yet another appearance during the reception, where vibrant garlands of paper Monarch butterflies were suspended from the ceiling.
