An Indian Double Wedding at The Fillmore Detroit in Detroit, Michigan

Sisters, Shruti Kumar (26 and an engineer and supply chain analyst) and Tripti Kumar (29 and a pathology resident) and their grooms Anup Bhandiwad (27 and a doctor) and Sankalp Bhatnagar (29 and a family medicine resident) joined forces to host a blowout bash at The Fillmore Detroit.  The day before the reception, Shruti and Anup wed in an Indian ceremony at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial under a mandap draped in curly willow branches. The following morning, Tripti and Sankalp exchanged rings during their Hindu ceremony at Meadow Brook Hall’s Pegasus Garden. As a subtle nod to the couple’s Michigan State alma mater, a mehendi artist inked a Spartan design on Tripti’s palm prior to the start of the ceremony. After many deliberations, both couples agreed on a joint Gatsby-inspired reception filled with feathers, jewels and gold accents. “We have many great memories from concerts at The Fillmore, so we jumped at the opportunity to share that stage for our first dance,” Shruti says. Decks of playing cards served as escort cards, and guests danced to lively Bollywood hits after sitting down to a dinner of butter chicken and cookie-dough-flavored cupcakes. “I was incredibly lucky that Sankalp and I got to share a reception with my sister and her husband,” Tripti says.
