An Industrial Wedding Blending Hawaiian and Jewish Traditions at Carondelet House in Los Angeles
Initially, Renahy Young (29 and a writer) and Lon Levy (30 and a portfolio manager) planned to marry at Lon’s childhood home (it was even on their save-the dates), but a visit to Carondelet House changed all that. “It was exactly the vibe we were trying to create, like being in someone’s cool-ass grandma’s house,” Renahy says. The day was filled with personal details, like a lei exchange (a nod to Renahy’s Hawaiian heritage) and the hora that honored Lon’s Jewish background. Plus, instead of reading traditional vows, Renahy sang “So High” by John Legend to Lon. Their atmospheric location, a 1928 Italian-style villa filled with antiques and a rich, moody color palette and a mix of roses, lilacs, scabiosa, ferns and dried grasses helped them pull off the look. Each place card included a quote that the couple chose specifically for that guest. “It was really important to us to let everyone know that they were invited because we love them,” Renahy says. “It made them feel part of the wedding.” After taking their seats, guests noshed on vegan butternut squash tortellini and seared ribeye with fried quail’s egg before devouring slices of a Hawaiian guava, passionfruit and lime chiffon cake with whipped cream and peach filling.
