An Emily Brontë-Inspired Wedding at The Junior League of Houston in Houston, Texas
Mary and Sahra's wedding transported guests into the pages of Emily Brontë’s England. “I’m a big literature nerd, so I wanted you to feel as though you stepped into a ball from a classic novel,” Sahra says. Rich satin wallpaper, gold foil touches and an arch topped with spray roses channeled the antique vibe. Mary impressed Sahra during her vows by quoting Wuthering Heights, one of her favorites. “It showed how well she knows me,” Sahra says. Sahra’s cousin, an Episcopal priest, married the pair. “In my family, it’s a sort of tradition to have the cousin who is a minister marry you,” Sahra says. Mary rocked a metallic blue floral brocade blazer while Sahra opted for a beaded tulle ball gown, which fit her antique-chic vision. Mary’s squad wore black suits, while Sahra’s side chose their own looks, including variations of pink for her bridesmaids and suits for her non-binary bridespeople. The couple leaned into The Junior League’s ornate décor, playing up the gold wallpaper with gold candelabras, gold chargers and dramatic centerpieces with eucalyptus, roses and hydrangeas. “To describe our style, I’d call it the tableaux ball in The House of Mirth,” Sahra says.
