An Elegant, Spring Wedding at the Old Stone Bank in Providence, Rhode Island
When you have a place like Providence, Rhode Island’s iconic Old Stone Bank to call home, an at-home wedding is a no-brainer. Alma Guerrero (28 and a physician) and Barrett Bready (38 and a biotech entrepreneur) knew from the get-go that there was no better place than their future home to celebrate with their families and friends and with the help of Couture Parties they managed to pull off an elegant spring event with undeniable flair, their rare architectural gem providing as a striking backdrop for the day. Playing up their unique venue was a must and the couple started by hiring artist Tom Gastel to create a custom invitation suite with a hand-drawn illustration of the Providence landmark to set the tone for the day. New England Invitations then carried the motif throughout the rest of the stationery to create a cohesive feel. Strategic uplighting highlighted the building’s impressive dome, while lush bunches of peach, coral and white blooms arranged by Flowers by Semia brought a fresh, garden-inspired feel to the stately space. While the day had an overall classic and sophisticated feel, Alma and Barrett made sure to incorporate plenty of elements that spoke to their personalities. The couple’s favorite dishes — Barrett’s mother’s chicken noodle soup and Alma’s favorite dessert, Snowballs in Hell from The Clarke Cooke House — added an unexpected dimension to the dinner menu, while a live mariachi band and a DJ pumping out endless dance hits kicked the festivities into high gear. The pair even incorporated a confetti cannon into the ceremony, showering guests with celebratory rose petals when their officiant and close friend announced them man and wife. A tip for the taking from Alma: “It’s easy to get caught in the details. Remember to step back and remember the wedding is about your commitment to each other. Everything else is extra.”
