An Elegant Rustic Wedding at Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa in Young Harris, Georgia

Alyson Smith, 22, a third grade teacher and Goodrich Wright, 27, an analyst, met while volunteering at a local homeless organization in Atlanta, Georgia. The two really got to know each other after one of the homeless men that they knew through the organization went to jail; they would go visit him together. From their Alyson and Goodrich commenced on a culinary adventure, trying different cuisines all over the world. “My dad lives in El Salvador, for our first date Goodrich took me to a Salvadorian restaurant where we ate a ton of papusas. The next week we tried to make our own papusas, which ended up almost burning my apartment building down and left us getting late night sushi. After that, Goodrich must have felt sorry for me for my failed attempt to cook for him, so he continued to take me to get foreign foods at restaurants. We quickly fell in love over pho, tacos, curry, and a little bit of the Avett Brothers,” says Alyson.Goodrich proposed while he and Alyson were visiting Bogota, Colombia. After a hike up Monserrate, which Goodrich used as a ruse for what was to come later, he took Alyson to the home of a friend who lived nearby. They headed up to the apartment’s rooftop patio, which offered stunning views of the city and began playing a game of bananagrams. “Instead of trying to use all of my tiles, I had but one goal: to spell ‘Aly will you marry me.’ I had a hard time finding all of the y's I needed and I actually just started flipping over tiles,” says Goodrich. “Aly realized what I was up to before I could get all the words in the right order so my proposal read "ALY YOU WILL MARRY ME" so I didn't give her an option, but thankfully she didn't need one!"For their wedding, the couple planned an elegant, rustic affair with a muted color palette of white and silver, so as to not detract from the beautiful setting of their venue, the Brasstown Valley Resort and Spa. Handmade mercury glass vases were scattered throughout the event, adding a subtle vintage touch, while arrangements of mini hydrangeas, snowy jewel roses, lisianthus, orchids felt romantic and sophisticated. Green trick added a fresh pop of green to the d?cor and played up the lush green landscape.
