An Elegant, Rustic Wedding at a Private Residence in Annapolis, Maryland
When Jess Kaplan (31 and a lawyer) and Dan Kuenzi (27 and a cofounder of Local Roots Farm) visited Jessica's family in Annapolis, Maryland, they frequently went to the tobacco farm down the street to watch the sunset. "The way the barn looked as the sun went down behind it, breeze rippling across the water and through the grasses, had always caught my eye," Jess says. So when they found out that the farm occasionally hosted weddings, Jess and Dan jumped on the opportunity. The on-site barn inspired the rustic theme with an elegant style, combining wooden accents with lovely colors of pink, orange and blue. Most important, Jessica and Daniel represented their relationship throughout the day, starting with the ceremony near the waterfront in Jessica's family's backyard, captured on camera by Readyluck. Jessica walked down the aisle sprinkled with white and pink petals that led to the branch chuppah, where they conducted Jewish traditions throughout the ceremony. The celebration continued at the barn, where guests found their escort cards inside wooden drawers stuffed with vibrant flowers. They sat at long tables draped with burlap runners and decorated with flower-filled wooden boxes, mercury glass vases and mason jars, all designed by Jessica's mother and her team of florists from Rhonda Kaplan. From all personal touches that made up this rustic wedding, our favorite had to be the symbolism of their first dance. Dan and I met through our college a cappella group, and we wanted to embrace the role that music has played in our relationship, Jess says. We decided to record our own version of Ed Sheeran’s 'Tenerife Sea.' The lyrics were so appropriate for our wedding day, and the waltz tempo was perfect to dance to.
