An Elegant Mansion Wedding at The Milestone in Krum, Texas

Elena Goodale (23, Industrial Designer) first met Derek Ogle (23, Industrial Designer) while making up an Art History test in her professor’s office.

Elena Goodale (23, Industrial Designer) first met Derek Ogle (23, Industrial Designer) while making up an Art History test in her professor’s office. “We spent two and a half years developing the sweetest friendship that then led us to begin dating the day after Valentines Day during the last semester of our senior year,” says Elena. After graduating in May 2014 with degrees in Industrial and Innovative Design, the two started a long distance relationship. Elena moved to California for an internship opportunity, while Derek lived in Nebraska where he was planning an extra-special surprise trip. On the morning of June 2, 2014 Elena received a letter from Derek explaining his love for her, which Elena took as an endearing sentiment (not knowing Derek would be surprising her that afternoon!) Derek proposed to Elena at the restaurant on the end of Oceanside Pier by hanging a pear-shaped champagne diamond ring around the straw in her cookie dough milkshake. The two started planning a January wedding, a date just seven months from their sweet proposal. Elena and Derek became "the Ogles" at The Milestone, a grand southern-style mansion venue in Krum, Texas. “Since we had to plan our wedding at a distance, we tried to find a venue that would be able to assist us throughout the wedding planning process,” says Elena. With a palette of ivory, champagne and navy in mind, Elena and Derek chose to let the classic beauty of the venue shine by introducing a minimal amount of wedding decor.

Elena chose a champagne colored sheath dress from Von Maur, carefully dressing each body appropriately and keeping costs low. The satin skirt and sequined mesh top kept the short frocks looking formal.
“We wanted to select an outfit that was not only affordable, but an outfit they could wear again,” says Elena. The groomsmen wore navy blue cardigans and bowties, light blue dress shirts, and khaki pants.
Sweet Hug During First Look
Elena used faux ivory-colored roses and eucalyptus leaves to create her bridal bouquet. The arrangements, including the groomsmen’s boutonnieres were made ahead of time and kept their fresh-looking appearance all day and night.
Rows of chiavari chairs created a traditional ceremony set up. A small arrangement of ivory hydrangeas capped every aisle chair.
Elena and her father walked arm in arm down the aisle. She clutched a DIY bouquet of faux ivory roses and eucalyptus leaves.
Elena and Derek exchanged vows in the ceremony room at The Milestone Denton, a mansion venue in Krum, Texas. An hors d’oeuvres and dessert reception followed the ceremony in the ballroom.

Foregoing the traditional reception dinner, Elena and Derek provided guests like an array of hors d’oeuvres and desserts.

Derek’s sister created the unique cake topper using the left over floral décor the bride used to create her bouquet. Hidden inside the ruffled buttercream frosting was a classic white cake with raspberry filling.rn

Couple’s First Dance
Elena and Derek kicked off their shoes and played the popular reception game, which kept guests in stiches. The newlyweds also played a game called “Stand-up, Sit-down” which gave one of their guests the opportunity to win a prize.
Elena designed the thank you note, which featured a picture of Derek and herself. Attached to the note was a pouch of homemade hot cocoa, made from a recipe handed down from a bridesmaid’s mom.
