An Elegant Hiphop-Inspired Rooftop Wedding at Liberty House in Jersey City, New Jersey
Jyoti Folch (31 and an associate director for the New York City Department of Education) and Matthew (Matt) Berman (32 and a financial services executive) used soft summer colors like lavender, blush, white and cream to complement the city views in the background, while subtle touches nodded to their shared love for music.
Jyoti and Matt kept the reception centerpieces low to promote conversation, filling silver urns with fresh summer blooms in white, lavender and green. Favors included custom USB boom boxes with a short playlist of Jyoti and Matt’s favorite songs—some of which even made the reception playlist.
The five-tier cake, created by the bakers behind TLC’s Cake Boss, was cookies and cream flavored and topped with wood figurines of the couple and their cats. The pair danced to a live band’s rendition of the Pitch Perfect mash-up of “Just the Way You Are” and “Just a Dream” for their first spin as newlyweds.
Other music-related touches included a wall of vinyl records at the after-party entrance and a boom box sign-in book. “We wanted to incorporate some of that joy into our selections but not let it get too cheeky,” Jyoti says of the décor inspired by her and Matt’s love of concerts.
